Legendary Platform artist, industry icon ad Global Artistic Director of John Paul Mitchell Systems Robert Cromeans showed MODERN’S Beauty and Fashion Director Maggie Mulhern around his San Diego salon in the most recent episode of Modern Salon TV. Owning 5 salons total, MODERN got an exclusive interview with the man himself along with a look at the salon’s reservation desk, color bar, wash room and more!

Reservation philosophy: Cromeans says that at his salon they don’t think of things as “appointments”—it’s more about value so they use the term “reservation.” This ultra modern salon offers treatments to A-list celebrities, brides and simply to visitors who want to look their best.
Color Bar: Rather than doing color under salon lights, Cromeans’ color area has an open ceiling that allows natural sunlight in for the stylists. He believes this is how you can create your truly desired look. The color experience is the opposite of a dispensary, at Cromean’s color bar the color formula is prepared right in front of the clients.
Wash Room: The Cromeans’ salons make a BIG deal about shampooing. They have a sectioned off, quiet room to suit their guests when they are getting this service done. Whether they are getting a hair cut or a color, every client will generally visit this room.

At the end of the episode, you will see a new and creative updo technique you can create on your clients! Conducted by Education and Artistic Director for Redken Sam Villa, he shows you how to create a series of twists, while anchoring certain sections to the head for a beautiful result! To finish the look he uses his texture iron for backcombing and then messes up the do for a little texture. It’s a really quick segment but very informational!
